  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1/4 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the vanilla and peppermint extracts, mixing well to combine.
  4. Gradually beat in the flour and salt until the dough is formed.
  5. Divide the dough in half, and add red food coloring to one half, mixing until fully combined.
  6. Take small portions of each dough and shape them into rope-like pieces, then twist them together to form candy cane shapes.
  7. Place the shaped cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden on the edges.
  9. Allow to cool and then sprinkle with crushed candy canes.

Notes

  • For a stronger peppermint flavor, increase the amount of peppermint extract.
