Homemade Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Frosting

  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed.
  4. Stir in boiling water until well combined.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
  8. Frost with chocolate frosting of your choice.

Notes

  • For an even richer chocolate flavor, add chocolate chips to the batter.
  • Make sure the cake is completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
