Lowcountry Shrimp and Grits

A delicious twist on a classic Southern dish featuring shrimp and grits with turkey bacon.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 slices turkey bacon, chopped
  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Add grits, reduce heat to low, and stir until thickened.
  3. In a skillet, cook turkey bacon until crispy, then remove from pan.
  4. Add olive oil, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet, sauté for 5 minutes.
  5. Add shrimp and Cajun seasoning, cook until shrimp are pink.
  6. Stir in cooked grits and cheddar cheese, mix well.
  7. Serve topped with turkey bacon.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add hot sauce to the shrimp mixture.
  • Feel free to substitute regular bacon if preferred.
