  • 6 cups water
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Rinse the split peas and combine them with water in a large pot.
  2. Add diced onion, carrots, celery, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1-1.5 hours or until peas are soft.
  4. For dough boys, mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  5. Add milk and mix until just combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the dough onto the soup during the last 10 minutes of cooking.
