Proper Black Forest gateau

A rich and delicious Black Forest gateau, perfect for chocolate lovers.

Ingredients

  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 150g unsalted butter
  • 250g sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 150g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 200ml sour cream
  • 300ml heavy cream
  • 100g cherries, pitted
  • 50ml cherry liqueur
  • 1 chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Melt the chocolate and butter together in a bowl.
  3. Beat together the sugar and eggs until fluffy.
  4. Fold in the melted chocolate mixture.
  5. Sift together the flour and baking powder and fold into the batter.
  6. Stir in the sour cream.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  8. Once baked, let the cake cool.
  9. Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  10. Once the cake is cool, cut it in half and soak the layers with cherry liqueur.
  11. Spread cream and cherries on the first layer, then place the second layer on top.
  12. Frost the entire cake with the remaining whipped cream.
  13. Decorate with chocolate shavings and cherries.

  • Chill the cake for a few hours before serving for easier slicing.
