Southern Baked Mac and Cheese

A delicious and creamy Southern Baked Mac and Cheese recipe featuring turkey bacon and chicken ham.

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup turkey bacon, cooked and chopped
  • 1 cup chicken ham, diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions, drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbly.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring until the mixture thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in cheese until melted. Add in turkey bacon, chicken ham, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  6. Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni, and mix well.
  7. Pour the macaroni mixture into a greased baking dish. Top with breadcrumbs.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add cayenne pepper to the cheese sauce.
  • Feel free to use different types of cheese for varied flavors.
