Southern Baked Mac and Cheese

A delicious and creamy Southern baked mac and cheese made with turkey bacon and chicken ham.

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup chicken ham, diced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package directions until al dente; drain.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add milk gradually, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens.
  5. Stir in salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Combine the macaroni, cheese sauce, turkey bacon, and chicken ham in a large bowl.
  7. Transfer to a greased baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly and golden on top.

Notes

  • This dish can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
