  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the split peas under cold water.
  2. In a large pot, combine the peas, water or broth, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, bay leaf, thyme, and ham.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 1-1.5 hours, until peas are tender.
