  • 2 pounds beef chuck, cut into cubes
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 2 potatoes, diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add beef and brown on all sides.
  2. Add onions and garlic, cooking until softened.
  3. Stir in carrots, potatoes, beef broth, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.
  4. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, milk, and egg to form a dough.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough into the stew, cover, and cook for an additional 15 minutes until dumplings are cooked through.

  • For added flavor, consider marinating the beef in red wine for a few hours.
