Hungarian Goulash

A warm and hearty dish that combines beef, paprika, and vegetables for a savory experience.

  • 2 pounds beef chuck, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons sweet paprika
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 2 potatoes, cubed
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and garlic, sauté until softened.
  3. Stir in the beef and brown on all sides.
  4. Add paprika and caraway seeds, stirring to coat the beef.
  5. Pour in the beef broth, add carrots, potatoes, bell pepper, and bay leaf.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover. Simmer for 2 hours.
  7. Season with salt and pepper before serving.

Notes

  • Best served with crusty bread or over egg noodles.
